The End. August 2005-August 2006.

This trip is now over. My girlfriend Megan Lyles and I spent a year traveling all overland by bus and boat from our home in New York City to Buenos Aires, Argentina. We spent over 600 hours on busses, and boats. We wanted to see as much as possible, learn some Spanish, and eat everything. Over the course of the year we visited:

The United States
Mexico

Guatemala
Honduras
El Salvador
Nicaragua
Costa Rica
Panama

Colombia
Ecuador
Peru
Bolivia
Paraguay
Uruguay
Argentina

We have had an amazing time, and experienced so many wonderful, frustrating, frightening, and beautiful moments. If you have been following this photo blog all along, I hope you enjoyed it. If you are just now finding it for the first time, welcome, leave a few comments or questions and I hope you like what you see.

Megan and I are now engaged to be married. I proposed during our last days in Buenos Aires which for me made it a perfect ending to a fantastic year on the road.

Wow Michael, I´ve been following you and Megan since I first found your blog last January. I love your pictures, and how they tell the story of your journey, I hope mine will do the same when I start this October. You went to my country (Colombia) and showed the real thing, no stories or lies as many people do, I hope I can do the same with all the places I´ll go. Take care and well done!
un abrazo grande
Simon

Yeah, Ya'll passed the test. After a year on the road together with all that you encountered if you didn't know if you were compatible that experience will surely tell you. You guys make such a great couple. What are ya'll doing now? Do you have to go back to work or are you writing a book together or what? How is the cat? Tell us about the proposal. Sorry for all the questions but...Jan

Michael,

I recently stumbled across your site through bootsnall.com. Your pictures are absolutely beautiful. I just got back to the U.S. after a yearlong adventure in South America as well...though it was a bit more sedentary than yours. I traipsed around the southern half of the continent, eventually settling in Buenos Aires for seven months. Your photos really bring me back; I can practically smell the omnipresent burnt rubber/grilled meat combination wafting through the Argentine streets ...Ok, enough nostalgia for one post. By any chance are any of your photos for sale? I'm just a poor recent grad so I can't offer much ;), but it can't hurt to ask now can it? Congrats on the engagement as well.

Saludos,

Adam

Engaged to be married? Now that's an epic journey!

Congratulations to you both, and may your future together be smoother than any 21 hour bus ride.

OMG Congratulations you guys!! You see, I told you back in May you were made for each other and it was true love. All best wishes for a lifetime spent together in happiness and in love. If it's not too personal, I would love (as others) to read how you proposed. Engagements are the most romantic thing... Many good wishes, Beq

Michael, congrats to you and megan. i'm sorry to see your journey come to an end for selfish reasons, but i'm glad you made it back safe and that i got to follow your trials and triumphs. You seem like a great guy and you better treat mcsleeperson right or I'll have to call out the sista-hood. and believe me, you don't want that. I hope our paths cross one day. Namaste.

This trip really was something! I'm very happy for you.

I hope I have time and courage to do something like that someday. Until then I'll try doing some closer locations. You know, I don't want to get out of practice.

If you are interested you can follow my effort at http://photo-blogging.blogspot.com/

Keep blogging!
