Filadelfia, Paraguay.
We are sitting here in a cafe in Santa Cruz, Bolivia waiting for our bus to leave at 20:00. This bus trip will take no fewer than 20 hours traveling through the Gran Chaco desert until it arrives in the Mennonite town of Filadelfia. We don't expect to have access to the internet until we get to Concepción.
Enjoy the fireworks and the BBQ tonight, USA!.

Just saw that you are in Filadelfia on Thorn Tree which was weird. I get there tomorrow morning (Fri 7th July). Will be interested to read you blog in a weeks time...
Hey everyone!
We are in Loma Plata about 25kms away from Filadelfia. This area was settled by Mennonites in the late 1920´s. This place is soo interesting. Most people speak German first, Spanish second, maybe English third, and Guarani last. Blond hair and blue eyes are everywhere...
Totally hellacious bus ride here. It took 22 hours, mostly over a rutted dirt road through desert. The assholes at the bus companies in Santa Cruz lied their faces off when they told us the bus stopped in the little dusty town of Filadelfia. The bus blew right by the turn and kept heading for the Capital. If I had not gone to the front and thrown a fit we would have never made it here. They dropped us off at some gas station, where we caught a collectivo back to Filadelfia. Im glad to have made it here, such a different experience...
