Welcome to Mexico City, pick a pocket, any pocket!

We arrived in Mexico City at 6:00am after riding an all night bus from Guadalajara. From the bus station we took the Metro. The Metro was very easy to figure out, and it was also very cheap. I reckon we were in the thick of rush hour commuter traffic because the trains were very crowded. At one stop lots people crammed into our car and everybody was pushing. I was pressed up against a wall of bodies when I suddenly felt a certain sesnsation near my right cargo pant pocket. Now this is the pocket that is just above my knee, and it is fastened by two buttons, so I have been keeping my very slim wallet there thinking no way will anybody even try a two button lower pocket. Well forget about it, the sensation was some joker who had already gotten both buttons undone and was about to lift my wallet, his whole hand was in my pocket while his back was facing me. He was almost good enough to get the job done, but not quite, I busted him cold. I stepped back, grabbed my pocket, and laid into him with a hard shove knocking him into his neighbors. I then began to tell him all sorts of nice 6:00am pleasantries. He looked at me and said with a half smile on his face "no intiendo", meaning "I do not understand". I assured him that we both understood, and to stay away from me. He got off very quickly at the next stop, nobody on the packed train even seemed to notice the disturbance. Business as usual in the worlds largest city.

Dad, this has never happened to me before. I saw it happen to a stranger in England back when I was like 13.

You are no trend spotter!
